LOCAL MOVING COST

 LOCAL MOVING COSTS

There are a few things that can help you better anticipate the costs of your move. Moves within Cenla are based on a different pricing structure than long distance moves. LOCAL MOVES are priced on an hourly basis. The average cost of all our local moves in 2021 was just under $80000! Obviously some were much more expensive and some were much less, but that’s starting point for your budgeting purposes. We think that’s pretty inexpensive peace of mind.

The majority of our local moves are performed with 3 men and a moving van, but sometimes you may need 4,5 or even 6 men to complete your move safely and efficiently. Certain items such as large pianos, large chest-type freezers, etc. may call for the additional manpower—again, for the safe transportation as well as the safety of your crew.

TIPS
Here are some tips on keeping down your cost and making your move much easier!
  • If you’re able, disassemble items necessary to get through your doorways such as beds; take the mirrors off your dressers (place the screws, etc somewhere safe)
  • Disconnect all your appliances.
  • Move things like computers, stereos, mirrors and art objects in your car. These would normally require professional packing at an additional cost.
  • Take advantage of our Free Wardrobes. These are large upright cartons with a bar across them that we loan to you. When we arrive, we’ll place them by each of your closets. Just hand your clothes on the bar and mark them as “Master Bedroom”, “Sam’s room,” etc. Feel free to throw lightweight items such as pillows in the bottoms. Then, when we get to your new home, we’ll place them as you direct for you to unpack while we’re unloading the rest of your treasures. How easy is that!!!
  • Lastly, while we can’t allow you in our moving vans, you can certainly move small items like coffee tables, night stands, vacuum cleaners, etc. to the loading area. Then, when we get to your new residence, we’ll make them available for your to take inside.
Uh oh, but what about the packing? Here are some things to consider...
  • First off, our packing charges on a per cartons basis. We have a variety of boxes designed for different jobs.
  • The most expensive cartons for us to pack are the dish cartons and mirror/picture cartons.
  • We have small cartons for books, small kitchen appliances, canned goods, etc. Medium and large cartons are for pots & pans, toys, pillows, etc. Dish cartons are for, well, dishes.
  • It’s important to keep in mind that when packing you for a move across town or across the country, when it comes to your Waterford crystal and Hummel figurines, we can’t afford to take shortcuts. Same goes for mirrors, glass table tops & valuable pieces of art.
  • But here’s the thing: Probably 80% of the time you invest in packing is in finding the cartons, paper, tape, etc. We offer all those things to our customers at a reduces cost. And, we can either deliver them to you (for a small fee) or you can swing by our office on Elliott Street and we’ll happily load you with everything you’ll need to get the job done efferently and safely.
  • We offer what we call “ Fragile Only Packing.” If you choose this, we’ll take care of your china and other fragile items and leave the pots, pans, blankets and toys to your own expertise.
  • Here’s another thought: Many of our customers purchase the small cartons normally intended for heavy items like books and pack their own china. Then they put it in the back seat of their car and move it themselves. Works out just fine for them and at a great savings!
Listen, we understand that the moving experience can be very stressful—even if you’re only moving across town. Know that for over 70 years the people of Central Louisiana have trusted Hathorn Transfer with their most valuable treasures.

In fact, year in and year out over 65% of business comes from repeat business or recommendations of satisfied customers. We’re proud of that trust and we take it seriously. So when you’re ready, give us a call and see just how easy we can make it for you. As we’ve said, it’s pretty inexpensive peace of mind.
